At the end of this course, the participant will be
• Estimate limit state bearing capacities for different soils • Determine representative soil profile • Know the approaches to consider for calculating the settlement of a shallow foundation • Know the different types of piles according to their operating mode • Choose the appropriate piling technique for your project • Estimate the axial and lateral bearing capacities of the piles • Estimate the stiffness of their springs • Become familiar with the Broms approach to lateral capacity Description : Training for people who want to learn and/or improve their level of expertise in everything related to the design of shallow and deep foundations. Specifically, this course will focus on the analysis and design of shallow and deep foundation systems to resist vertical and horizontal loads from various superstructures including buildings, bridges, power stations, etc. This course will help participants better understand foundation engineering and learn how to design a safe and durable foundation system under various site and loading conditions. Target Clientele: This training is aimed at geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, civil engineers, contractors, promoters, owners and also anyone with a civil engineering background (technical or university), with equivalent training or professional experience. or working in the field of civil engineering. Program : • Procedure to follow following receipt of the results of the tests (in situ and in the laboratory) carried out or already available • Determination of the representative soil profile • Approaches and correlations currently considered in practice • Carrying capacities at the ULS and the SLS • Real projects already carried out (one for a deposit of clay soil and another for a granular soil) • Type of existing piles in the market: advantages and disadvantages • Calculation of the axial and lateral bearing capacity (single piles versus group of piles) • Calculation of spring's stiffnesses • Broms's method • Example to be investigated (Pillar of the bridge resting on a group of piles)
